South Bay City Among Best Places To Raise A Family

A new report ranked the best and worst places to raise a family. See how three cities in San Diego County ranked.

CHULA VISTA, CA — Chula Vista is among the top 60 best places to raise a family, according to a new report by WalletHub.

The personal finance website compared the family-friendliness of more than 180 cities across the country based on 47 key metrics. The data set ranged from the cost of housing to the quality of schools.

Fremont in the Bay Area came in as the second-best place in the U.S. and the top place in California to raise a family, according to the report. Only Overland Park, Kansas, beat out the city. Irvine in Orange County ranked third and was the only other city in California to crack the top 10.

San Diego ranked 18th. The city ranked fourth for family fun, 18th for education and child care, 21st for health and safety, 59th for socio-economics, and 96th for affordability.

Chula Vista landed on the list at the 60th spot. The city in San Diego's South Bay ranked eighth for health and safety, 30th for social-economics, 31st for education and child care, 97th for family fun, and 142nd for affordability.

Oceanside also landed on the list at the 86th spot. The city in San Diego's North County ranked 35th for socio-economics, 40th for health and safety, 78th for education and child care, 113th for family fun, and 147th for affordability.

San Bernardino is the worst place in the state to raise a family, according to the report. The city ranked 176th. At 182nd, Detroit, Michigan, landed last on the list.
