Suspect Jailed In Fatal 2020 Otay Mesa Hit-Run Crash

A man was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in Otay Mesa two years ago.

SAN DIEGO, CA β€” A 47-year-old man was behind bars Wednesday in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in Otay Mesa two years ago.

Estevan Fabian Corona was arrested Sunday at San Ysidro Port of Entry in connection with the traffic death of 21-year-old Brescia Ayon on March 5, 2020, according to the San Diego Police Department.

About 9:15 a.m. that day, Ayon was walking in a crosswalk at Otay Mesa and Otay Mesa Center roads when she was struck by a westbound car whose driver had run a red light at the intersection, SDPD Sgt. Victoria Houseman said.

Following the fatal impact, the driver of the silver Nissan Altima continued driving, fleeing to the north on Heritage Road. Ayon died at the scene.

Police did not disclose how investigators identified Corona as the alleged hit-and-run driver. He was being held at San Diego Central Jail on $250,000 bail pending trial.
