THE JUNGLE stalks onto DVD!

Jeri Jacquin, Movie Maven

On DVD this week from director/writer Andrew Traucki and EntertainmentOne is a look at what lies deep in THE JUNGLE.

Are you ready for some jungle love? This film tells the story of brothers Ben and Larry (Rupert Reid). They are going together into the jungle looking for the elusive Javan Leopard. Wanting to document their journey they also bring Adi (Igusti Budianthika) and Budi (Agoes Widjaya Soedjarwo) along as trackers.

Once they arrive and set up camp, the arduous task begins of placing night vision cameras. From the first night they hear movement in the jungle and capture photos but something else isn’t right.

Knowing it’s time to get gone – the four men nervously begin to head out of the jungle. What they don’t expect is once they are in; it might not be as easy to get out!

FINAL WORD: Reid as Larry is gung ho to find this elusive cat. He is also the crazy one that doesn’t know when to leave! Of course I’m on his side a little because part of me wants him to find a huge and I mean HUGE jungle cat that might not be all cat! Reid has also can be seen in THE MATRIX REVOLUTION and a personal favorite film of mine ANOTHER EARTH.

Budianthika as Adi is a jittery jungle guide that I kept yelling “keep it together man!” He wasn’t about to be the guy to shorten the film for me. Now Soedjarwo as Budi is jittery but he man’s up quite a lot because it’s easy to see he’d just rather run in the opposite direction of the camp. Soedjarwo is also seen in THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU and THE PHANTOM.

Director/writer Traucki is responsible for the “Trilogy of Terror” which includes THE REEF, BLACK WATER and THE ABC’s OF DEATH.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give THE JUNGLE three tubs of popcorn out of five. This has the ‘found footage’ aspect with a small cast so, other than the creepy stick breaking and growling, there is nothing to distract the viewer.

If you’re looking for a creepy film to watch on Friday night at home with a huge bowl of popcorn (not chicken, trust me!) then pop THE JUNGLE into your DVD and turn up the surround sound!

In the end – a new predator is on the hunt!
