  1. A South Bay student was named a semifinalist for the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. Semifinalists will compete for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million. (Imperial Beach Patch)
  2. With Southwestern College changing the makeup of its governing board from an at-large to a district system, the school announced a community survey as part of its "Your College, Your Voice" campaign. (City News Service)
  3. A man who was refused service at an Otay Mesa fast food restaurant opened fire on four "completely unsuspecting" employees, killing one of them, a prosecutor said, while a defense attorney said police erroneously focused on her client as the suspect despite numerous inconsistencies in the investigation.   4. A search continued for an arsonist who set fire to a San Ysidro-area college center while an employee was inside. The arsonist set fire to the front doors of Southwestern College Higher Education Center. (City News Service)
