GLENDALE, CA-CHAMBER OPERA PLAYERS OF LOS ANGELES
will be presenting their second production of two rarely performed operas. Ariel
Pisturino, E. Scott Levin, Jessica Mamey, Joseph Michels, Daniel
Gledhill, Josh Shaw, and David Rentz collaborate on this project
in an effort to enhance the classical music scene in Glendale. These distinguished musicians bring a
youthful, modernized outlook to these vintage works.
The evening will begin
with A
Hand of Bridge by Samuel Barber.
This opera, only 9 minutes long, is a highly unexpected and entertaining
character study enhanced by jazzy music techniques that give the audience the
impression of a jazz combo rather than an opera. We then switch gears for Gallantry by Douglas
Moore, running about 35 minutes. Think, “Opera meets General Hospital,” in this wacky spoof that even includes
commercials.
Performances take place in
the Parish Hall of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1020 N. Brand Blvd. Glendale,
CA 91202. ADMISSION IS FREE.
Parking is plentiful in the church lot and on the street. Come early for wine, drinks, and general
enjoyment.
