Chains Required For Angeles Crest Highway, Other Routes Through San Gabriel Mountains

MOUNT WILSON -- Highways through the San Gabriel Mountains were crusted in snow and ice, and chains were required Monday.

Caltrans and the CHP were enforcing chain requirements on State Highway 2 -- the Angeles Crest Highway -- above La Canada-Flintridge. A checkpoint was enforcing the rule about 2 miles downhill from the Upper Tujunga Canyon Road junction.

The county was enforcing chain requirements on Angeles Forest Highway between Pearblossom Highway and Route 2.

Route 2 was closed between the Snow Crest Ski Area and Big Pines Road.

Big Pines Road, between the desert floor and Wrightwood, had chain requirements. Chains are also required for Routes 2 and 138 in the Wrightwood.
