Foothill Residents Continue to Increase Conservation Efforts

Residents in the Foothill Municipal Water District (www.fmwd.com) service area continue increasing conservation efforts during this multi-year drought. On Saturday, October 4, 2014, the District held a landscaping class partnering with the Theodore Payne Foundation (http://theodorepayne.org/). Over 100 people attended the class to learn how they can transform their gardens from thirsty turf to California native, drought tolerant landscaping. As customers apply their new learned knowledge to their property, the amount of rebates applied for has increased from about $250,000 in the first six months of the year to about $550,000 for the two months of July and August.

“Fall is the best time to replace your lawn with a low water use landscape and our partnership with the Theodore Foundation on these residential low water use landscaping classes has really become a very popular customer program,” said Richard Atwater, FMWD Board President.

Customers must pre-qualify for the removal rebate by sending pictures and other information to SoCal Water$mart before turf is eradicated and removed. Pre-qualification information can be found at http://www.fmwd.com/Conservation.aspx or www.socalwatersmart.com.
