How to Cope When the “Big One” Shakes
As Californians, we know that earthquakes are an inevitable natural disaster waiting to happen. Despite this knowledge, are you prepared?
Dr. Lucy Jones will be the keynote speaker for the program -
Know Your Faults addressing earthquake safety.
Dr. Jones serves as Senior Science Advisor for the Natural Hazards Mission of the U.S. Geological Survey and also leads the SAFRR Project: Science Application for Risk Reduction to apply USGS science to reduce risk in communities across the Nation.
The La Cañada Thursday Club’s Community Relations Committee (CRC), chaired by Jane Rosell, is in charge of the event at the historic clubhouse. This event is part of the committee’s ongoing goal of providing programs on current topics of interest to the community.
“Know Your Faults will heighten local awareness of the Great California ShakeOut on October 17th and highlight the necessity of community and individual planning,” explains Thursday Club President, Gale Caswell.
“Having lived my whole life in Southern California, I’ve felt many earthquakes over the years. I’m pleased that my friend, Lucy, accepted the Thursday Club’s invitation and look forward to her presentation. I learn something new and important every time Lucy talks with me about earthquakes” says Sue Tutt, a former Thursday Club President.
Admission is complimentary and light refreshments will be served. Door prizes and informational handouts will be provided.
