Water Polo: La Cañada Stopped Short by Harvard-Westlake
Spartans fight up strong fight in 13-11 nonleague loss to traditional CIF power at Pasadena City College.
Not too many water polo teams can generally hang with Harvard-Westlake. But the boys’ teamdid just that Wednesday for much of its match with the Wolverines in a nonleague match at Pasadena City College.
In the end, La Canada dropped its first match of the season, losing 13-11.
“We gave them the early lead, which is what I was afraid of,” La Canada coach Steve Neville said. “We made mental mistakes that cost us big goals, but I thought our team played very hard and very well.”

La Canada (1-1) trailed 8-6 at halftime.
Backed by Simeon Stefan, who finished with a team-high six goals, the Spartans eventually pulled even at 10 with 4:31 to play.

Harvard-Westlake (5-2) rallied to scored three times in the next two minutes to pull away.
Chase Borisoff had two goals for the Spartans. Peter Loakes, Alden Geller and Trevor Roszkos each added a goal.
The Spartans are looking forward to the expected return of starting goalie Wolfie Paulson, who has been out much of the summer due to a broken arm.
