Last four events of the season at rural school focus on environment, health, culture
Native American speaker, yoga workshop for cyclists/riders, seminar on trees, "Bear and Butterfly" blend science and spirit at forest venue
Chilao School is tucked away in a quiet meadow at the gateway to the high country. Accessible from Angeles Crest Highway at Chilao Road, the school once belonged to La Canada Unified School District, and served the rural community that thrived in the mountains. Today the non profit group Redbird hosts a variety of arts, cultural and environmental programs there, all of which are free and open to the public.
The final four gatherings have a broad spectrum of focus. We encourage you to join us for any or all of our last four events for the season at Chilao School:
Saturday, September 5 beginning at noon - Face the Sun - a conversation with
Anaquad Cobe

We’ve asked Anaquad to join us for an afternoon of food and friendship, Chilao style. We’ll provide a main dish, drinks and snack items, and welcome guests to contribute food to our potluck-style feed. This event is free and bringing a food item is not a requirement. Everyone is welcome.

Saturday, November 14 beginning at 10 AM - Bear and Butterfly,
Our Season Closing Event
Join us for a social gathering and learning workshop. We are inviting presenters to share both spiritual and scientific understanding of two of the forest’s best known inhabitants - the black bear and the monarch butterfly. Both animals are important in Native American culture, and both face a challenging future in today’s world. Our relationship to these animals today is more than myth and legend. Our dances emulate their flight, and their medicine; our environmental practices should be ones that allows these beautiful, fragile creatures to survive. Potluck style feed with Redbird providing a main dish, drinks and snack items; contributions from guests are welcomed but not required. This gathering is free, family friendly and open to everyone.
