Football: Lee Leads CV Past La Cañada
Falcon running back scores three touchdowns in 35-14 win over rival Spartans.

Lee got a little banged up, but he kept fighting to keep his team ahead as CV earned a 35-14 victory over the host Spartans in the game now billed as the Gordon Warnock Memorial Game. Warnock was a longtime CV coach who died last year at age 79.
“Last year we were 4-1 when Marro went down (with a season-ending injury) against St. Francis and we didn’t win another game,” CV coach Paul Schilling said in praising Lee.

Lee had 23 carries for 204 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.

“I had some great pullers for me on the counter,” Lee said of his blockers. “The counter was a big play.”
Lee scored twice in the first half and Patrick Kim scored once as CV (2-1) went up 21-0 at the intermission.
La Canada (1-2) came out ready to play in the second half as Franklyn Cervenka returned the opening kickoff all the way to the Falcon 29 before kicker ran him down.
The Spartans scored three plays later as Andy Paynter scored on a 20-yard run.
Lee added his third touchdown at the 8:43 mark of the third quarter, scoring on a 22-yard run.
Cervenka made things tighter by scoring on a 21-yard run with 2:27 to play.
David Oh scored for the Falcons with 28 seconds to play.
CV quarterback Zac Wilkerson finished 12 of 18 for 181 yards.
La Canada starter Matt Jones was 7 of 25 for 122 yards.
La Canada coach Dan Yoder said he didn’t have too many players suited up and fatigue played a factor.
“You can’t point a finger at these guys. Most of them were going both ways and on special teams,” Yoder said.
