Pressure Canning for Beginners

Pressure Canning for Beginners Sunday September 29th, 2013 1-4pm

Learn
to use a pressure canner and expand your range of home-preserved foods
to include low acid vegetables, soups, stews, sauces, chilis, and more.

Home-canned
jams, jellies and pickles are great! In our first class of this series
on Sept 15th we will cover how all these goods are processed in a
boiling water bath.
Once you complete the basics in that class you are ready to take the
next step in canning, which is learning how to use a pressure canner.

With
a pressure canner you are able to safely can vegetables, meats, soups,
stews, sauces, chilies, and all sorts of deliciousness. Jams, jellies
and pickles are wonderful
flavor enhancers that add to a meal. Pressure canning lets you preserve
the main course.

In
Pressure Canning for Beginners, you will learn about types of pressure
canners, pressure canner safety, safely canning low-acid foods, and how
pressure canning can
be used to feed your family.

Participants will take one pressure canned item home with them
along with recipes and information that cover the basic canning categories (vegetables, meat & soup)

Class will be
taught by Master Food Preserver Steve Rudicel at the Zane Grey Estate in
Altadena @ 396 Mariposa St. Gates open at 12:30; a parking attendant
will direct you where to park on the property.
Car pooling recommended if possible.
