Woman, 107, Home Uninhabitable Following Laguna Woods House Fire
The blaze displaced the elderly woman and her caretaker.
LAGUNA WOODS, CA — A fire engulfed a home that belonged to a 107-year-old Laguna Woods woman, according to the Orange County Fire Authority. Firefighters arrived at the scene in the 6200 block of Avenida Despacio at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Capt. Larry Kurtz.
"When they arrived, the garage was fully engulfed in flames," Kurtz said.
The fire extended into the attic of the single family home, and also made it's way burning some of the interior living space.

"Most of the damage was in and around the garage, and to the support beams of the home," Kurtz said. "
The owner, an elderly woman, lives with her caretaker in the home. She was unharmed and was able to leave the residence, Kurtz said. Her grandson will be helping her find alternative living arrangements, as the structural integrity of the home was likely compromised.

"There are walls that were bowing and leaning out," Kurtz said.
