Following these four simple steps can keep your holiday Grinch-free in Laguna Beach.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — It's the most wonderful time of the year, and theft unfortunately is on the rise in Laguna Beach and elsewhere in Orange County. This public service message, offered by the authorities, showed a few ways you can ensure no Grinch steals your Christmas!

Park your vehicle in well lit areas.

"The first place he'll check is your car," The Laguna Beach Police advised. The Grinch loves those dark corners, so choose a well lit spot.

Lock your vehicle. Every night.

"Did you know 60% of vehicles are unlocked?" LBPD Officer Mellott said. Thieves take not only presents, but also look for easy ways inside your home. Lock the car, and make sure that garage door opener stays where it's supposed to, in your glove box.

Keep valuables out of view. Or better yet, bring them inside.

"If the Grinch doesn't see anything worth taking, he'll just move on," they said.

Keep watch over your and your neighbor's homes.

Report any suspicious vehicles or behavior to your local police. "If you don't report it, we won't know about it," they said.
