79-Year-Old Plunges To Death After Driving Over Embankment In Laguna Beach: Police

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — A 79-year-old woman was killed after driving off an embankment near a parking lot in Laguna Beach, according to police.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. Friday in the area of the 34800 block of South Coast Highway, police said.

A vehicle in a parking lot drove over a curb, crossed a sidewalk and landscaped area, hit a fence, then continued over a 20-25-foot embankment, overturning during the fall and coming to rest on its roof on the sidewalk below, according to police.

The driver and sole occupant was pronounced dead at Mission Hospital, police said, adding the cause of the crash was under investigation.
