Active Shooter Training Coming To Laguna Beach

Don't be startled next week if you see police activity, hear sirens near the Laguna college of design. Practice makes perfect, officers say.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — On Wednesday, you may hear gunfire. You will see a huge police and firefighter presence as emergency responders head to the Laguna College of Art and Design for an active shooter exercise. But this is just training, the Laguna Beach Police Department said.

LBPD has partnered with the Laguna College of Art & Design (LCAD) who will be hosting a full-scale active shooter exercise on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at their main campus, on the 2000 block of Laguna Canyon Road. All activities will occur on LCAD property.

The purpose of this exercise is to test our inter-agency capabilities and the mission readiness of our first responders during an active shooter incident. In addition to Laguna Beach police officers and firefighters, the exercise will involve personnel from our surrounding law enforcement and fire department agencies including Irvine, UCI, Newport Beach, and Costa Mesa.

"Laguna Canyon Road will remain open throughout the event and traffic control officers will be in place to mitigate any traffic congestion."

The exercise will not be open to the public and only authorized personnel and the media will be allowed to attend.
