The event will offer Laguna Beach residents the opportunity to get a feel for the nine candidates running in November's election.

Village Laguna member and panel moderator John Thomas urged residents to take advantage and view as many candidate forums leading up to the November election as possible.

"Just a few days before the deadline — there were only three or four candidates that had filed to run, and all of a sudden [at the deadline] there are nine," Thomas told Patch. "I think those members of the public that really give some thought to who they're going to vote have got some homework to do, because some of these names are more familiar to people who follow what's going on in laguna than others. There's an education process."

The process, Thomas said, starts with learning about each candidate and their stances on what matters to them in Laguna Beach.

As for what questions will be asked at the panel, Thomas said the moderators hope to hit important issues facing the community today.

The Village Laguna city council candidate forum takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31 at City Council Chambers, 505 Forest Avenue.

Laguna Beach residents can also tune in on local channel 852 or view the forum on Village Laguna's page after the event.
