Body Found on Ocean Floor off San Clemente Island

A recreational diver found a man 100 feet down, and homicide investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Sheriff’s divers recovered the body of a man about 100 feet down on the ocean floor off San Clemente Island today.

A recreational diver came across the body Sunday about 4 p.m., but the initial attempt to recover the body by sheriff’s divers and the Coast Guard that evening were suspended because of a lack of visibility, said Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The cause of death will be determined by the coroner’s office, who came and took possession of the body.
