Politics from the Port Side

I spent some free time this Saturday looking at the history of the Department of Defense. There have been 26 Secretaries of Defense of which 18 were Republicans and 8 were Democrats. Republicans Defense Secretaries held the office for a total of 18,582 days. Democrats have held the office for 5,320 days. Ratio of Republicans to Democrats is 3.5:1....Since 1946 the Defense Department spend more than 30 trillion dollars.....or about 1.2 billion dollars per day. Republicans Defense Secrataries have spent 22.6 trillion dollars while Democrats spent 7.8 trillion dollars......No Republican president has ever appointed a Democratic to the defense Department. But 4 Democratic Presidents have appointed Republicans...Johnson/Kennedy (1), Clinton (1), Obama (2).
