Rosalind Russell's R Star Foundation Wins Impact Giving Grant

Laguna Beach's "Goat Lady" Rosalind Russell is awarded a 2012 Grant by Impact Giving.

Laguna Beach's very own Rosalind Russell, nicknamed "the Goat Lady," has earned a $20,000 grant from Impact Giving this year to be used for purchasing more goats for impoverished women in Nepal.

Impact Giving, according to its website, is "a women’s collective giving organization that educates women who come together to make an impact by effecting positive social change in our communities, in our nation and around the world."

Rosalind Russell started a unique program to help the people of Nepal. This third-world country has a population of about 25 million. More than 75% live in poverty. Many earn less than a dollar a day. Fighting poverty with goats for women and children is what Russell’s program is all about, and it's working beyond all expectations!

With donations from caring people in the United States and abroad, Rosalind personally goes into some of Nepal’s more prosperous villages and buys dozens of goats, mostly pregnant or in season. She delivers them to impoverished villages, some of which are populated by Maoist insurgents, making it dangerous for her to be there. The Nepali women are able to raise money by selling the "kids" (baby goats), whichallows them to get teeth, educate their children, or care for an elderly or ill family member ... ever so much good coming from what they can earn.

Rosalind is the only Laguna Beach recipient to be honored with a grant from Impact Giving this year!

Here's Rosalind standing with a painting I created for her in order to help "brand" her mission. The Nepali woman is holding her gifted goat and is surrounded by symbols of Nepal.

Way to go, Rosalind! Laguna is proud of all that you are doing to help the Nepali women! The R Star Foundation is a generous and compassionate organization that helps women to help themselves and their families! Women are often thought of as a burden in third world countries, but Rosalind's organization is helping Nepal see otherwise. The women are proving themselves to be highly dependable and productive to the society through this program.
