The Canyons Re-enact the Old West with Music, Magic and More!

Where the heck is the Silverado Country Fair? Well, just miles from the inner city life of Orange County, lies the little ‘ole town of Silverado Canyon! This country town of less than 1,500 residents was once inhabited by the Acjachemen (Juaneno) Native American Tribe, then later home of the 1800’s Bluelight silver boom and early settler folk.

What the heck is the Silverado Country Fair all about? Canyon residents realize that remote, rustic living means weathering disasters. In February 1969, rainstorms flooded Silverado and Modjeska canyons and homes were washed away. Six people were killed when the Silverado Fire Station was hit by mudslides. The Silverado Country Fair was enacted in 1970 as a way to help bring the community together after the devastating rains and fundraise for families. “Canyonites” still living in harms way of the coming 2015 “El Nino” are planning to use this year’s fair proceeds to have resources ready to help cuz’ it’s a “neighbors helping neighbors” kind of community!

The Inter-Canyon League’s 45th Annual Silverado Country Fair and Folk Festival October 10-11, 2015 is gonna’ be the best family event of the season and will explore the wonders of the area’s Old West rustic culture, great live music, tasty food, handmade arts and crafts, 1800’s period activities & DIY workshop, children’s petting zoo, Illusionist magic show, games and silly ‘ole timey’ contests, all nestled under the Oak trees below Orange County’s famous Saddleback Mountain. The 45th event kicks off at 9:00 am Saturday morning with the 45th “Unparade” lead by the notorious wagon driven Silverado Outlaws! Western horseback riders, Acjachemen tribe, scouts, dancers and classic cars will be paradin’ past homes and businesses along Silverado Canyon Road to the fairgrounds. Don’t miss the live action robbery and gunfight at the Silverado Café and Canyon Market area! (Don’t worry kids…the Outlaws promise to give back what they steal!)

The Silverado Country Fair opens at 10:00 am with live music, dancing, and gun ‘slingin’ fun! Local art & craft merchants will be showin’ their wares and families can experience making old ‘timey crafts of the 1800’s with Mountain Man Joel Robinson & family dressed in period garb. New this year is a community DIY (Do It Yourself) homestead workshop where folks can learn to milk a cashew, pickle, ferment and spin wool! Even hungrier visitors will love the “by golly tastiest and wholesomest’ country cookin’ ya ever ate” served all weekend. The Acjachemen Tribal singers will be blessing the fair just before Western Icon Productions 1800’s re-enactment group gets everyone ‘fired up’ in the spirit of the Old West! Country, Western, Bluegrass, Folk & Blues bands will entertain throughout the weekend and entertainment highlights include OC Girl Scouts Ballet Folklorico, Canyon Creek Ramblers, the Beach Buzzards, Norm & Robin Sancho, Sligo Rags, The Budrows, Lazy Brad Lewis, and local resident DJ Electronic Dance Club Party! Sunday’s fair is sure to mystify the elders & the youngins’ with the magical illusions of Mark Paskell, “prestidigiator and master manipulator”! Sunday’s fair also includes SAWTOOTH Bluegrass Band and closes with OC’s favorite Grateful Dead tribute band CUBENSIS who’s a’comin’ over to time-travel us back from the whiskey drinkin’ 1800’s to the dirty ole’ hillbilly hippie town of Silverado today!

The Silverado Country Fair is held at the Silverado Fairgrounds (Community Center), located just one mile into Silverado Canyon, and only minutes away from the cities of Orange, Tustin, Irvine, Lake Forest or RSM. Slap on yer’ boots or kick off yer’ shoes and come on over to experience one of the last Hillbilly towns of the OC! You’re all welcome to dress up Western and bring ‘yer Country attitude…and oh yeah…yer’ friends n’ family too! Remember “No Hooch, No Pooch, & No Tobacco” and No ATM” onsite, but one of them machines can be found at the Silverado General Store!
