Celebrate Memorial Day With Free Concert In Laguna Beach

The Laguna Community Concert Band will welcome summer with back-to-back concerts celebrating America's history.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA β€” Are you looking to kick-off Memorial Day in a big way? The Laguna Community Concert Band is stepping into summer with back-to-back concerts celebrating the American spirit.

The first concert takes place on the Cobblestones at Laguna Main Beach on Memorial Day. The Laguna JaZz Band will kick off the show at 11 a.m., followed by the concert band at 12:30 p.m.

This year's concert band selections include the "Land of Liberty" medley by John Wasson, as well as several well-loved American anthems.

β€œOne of our goals as a band is to bring the community together through our love of music,” Director Mark Lowery told Patch. β€œThese two concerts are a celebration of community, creativity, and shared history.”

The second performance entitled "Land That I Love" takes place Sunday, June 2 at Laguna Beach High School.

According to organizers, the first half of the concert will honor America with well-loved melodies such as "America the Beautiful" and "Shenandoah." The second half of the concert celebrates great American composers spanning generations.

All Laguna Community Concert Band performances are free to the public, although donations are always welcome.

Following the June 2 concert, audience members can show their program at Lumberyard Restaurant, 384 Forest Avenue #10, to donate 15 percent of their meal cost to the band.
