Changing Channels With Laguna's Radio Station: KX FM 104.7

February saw a switch to the frequency where Laguna Beach's only FM radio station broadcasts. But do you know why?

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Laguna Beach KX FM radio is broadcasting on a whole different frequency. Starting the first week of February, KX FM switched to 104.7 FM, allowing the station a broader access, not just for the stellar tunes and talk radio, but also for emergency efforts.

"On February 3, 2020, KX 93.5, Laguna’s Only FM radio station, officially switched broadcast frequencies to 104.7 FM," the city reported. Don't worry, your favorite radio shows will not be interrupted.

For eight years of broadcasting on 93.5 FM, the station would get interrupted on occasion by a Los Angeles station using the same channel.

In a time of emergency, those sorts of interruptions could be problematic.

The new frequency allows the Laguna Beach non-profit radio station better coverage in all of Laguna Beach and surrounding areas, and an enhanced ability to help provide emergency-related information services to residents in the event of a disaster.
