City Receives National Award For Public Works Project

The City of Laguna Beach received a national award for the Bluebird Canyon Drive Evacuation Route Widening Project.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA β€” The City of Laguna Beach was recognized nationally by the American Society of Civil Engineers for a widening project in the city that was completed last year.

The 2023 Outstanding Small Projects Award was awarded to the city for the Bluebird Canyon Drive Evacuation Route Widening project, which was completed in fall 2023.

According to the city, the project oversaw the widening of the stretch of Bluebird Canyon Drive located between Oriole Drive to Rancho Laguna Road. The project was carried out to provide sufficient emergency ingress/egress for the neighborhood, which is located within a high fire hazard severity zone.

Other improvements included drainage, landscaping, pedestrian safety enhancements and removals of six utility poles in the canyon.
