Classic Mustang Winner Praises Laguna Beach Radio Station

Laguna Beach's KX93.5 raffled off a rare 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang to benefit the rebirth of the local FM radio station.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA —A local FM radio station gave away a classic Ford Mustang to earn much-needed funds. The station received 100 percent of the proceeds from the Laguna Beach Classic Car show giveaway, a tally of over $16,000 toward supporting the non-profit station.

October 6 was a gorgeous day at the car show when Kevin Simmons, a Redlands resident, and former radio station employee, anted up $100 on five raffle tickets.

He never guessed he would win.

"I've been listening to you guys for a few years, and I've always loved hearing new stuff," said Simmons on the air. "I used to work at a radio station back in the day, so I appreciate what you guys are doing. I'm so excited to win this car!"
The Wimbledon White Mustang was built on March 19, 1964. It was car number 2,041 to roll off the original assembly line. Only 1,274 cars of this model, this color and this package were initially sold, according to KX93.5.

The original price tag for this car amounted to $2,320.

The 170 cubic-inch engine, six-cylinder, three-speed manual. Some parts of the prototype were "borrowed" from the Ford Falcon, original the original horn ring on the steering column.

A previous owner of the car completely restored it, including a fully rebuilt engine. Similarly restored Mustangs average in value at $18,000, according to Hemmings.com.

The Mustang was the second classic car raffle KX 93.5 has held.

"We raffled off a red 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible in 2013, "KX 93.5 General Manager Tyler Russell said. "The station is always looking for creative ways to raise money to sustain itself."

Russell thanked the community for their support in this raffle.

"We'd like to invite everyone who values KX 93.5's role in Laguna Beach to become a member of our station as well," said Russell. "We need sustaining contributions to ensure that FM radio remains an integral part of our town forever."
