Coast Guard Searches for Missing Boater

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued one boater from the water and is searching for another missing boater off the coast of South Orange County.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Orange County sheriff’s personnel today were searching for a 40-year-old man in the waters near Dana Point.

Orange County sheriff’s officials called the Coast Guard just before 11 a.m. to report that a an 18-foot Boston Whaler was spinning in circles two miles west of Dana Point.

The Coast Guard immediately launched a 45-foot Response Boat — Medium boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles, a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles, a MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station San Diego, along with Orange County Sheriff’s Department water and air assets to assist in search efforts.

One of two boaters has been located one mile off shore of Dana Point in good condition. The boater reported that they entered the water at 9 a.m. The Coast Guard along with local agencies are continuing to search for the second fisherman who is a 40-year-old male, last seen in a white shirt, blue jeans and no life-jacket.

The rescued boater said the pair entered the water at 9 a.m.
