Uber Driver Crashes Into Pedestrian Closing Coast Hwy Overnight
Southbound Coast Highway between Cress and Calliope Street was closed after a traffic collision, Wednesday evening.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA - An 80-year-old man was severely injured when an Uber driver struck him on South Coast Highway just before 8 p.m. Wednesday night, according to police.
"The driver struck the pedestrian while he was crossing Mountain Street in a crosswalk," Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Jim Cota told Patch.
The man was reported in "grave condition" and paramedics took him to Mission Hospital - Mission Viejo, by ambulance. His name was not yet released, according to Cota.

The car vs. pedestrian crash led to a lengthy road closure Wednesday night during the police investigation, Cota said.
Southbound Coast Highway was reduced to one lane hours at Mountain/Coast until after 11 p.m., according to police.
