Cold Case: Laguna Beach Man Heads to Court in 1998 Slaying of Mother-In-Law
John Edward Moll is accused of beating his mother-in-law to death and leaving her body in a field nearly 20 years ago.
A former Laguna Beach man is scheduled for a pretrial hearing today in the cold case murder of his mother-in-law.
According to prosecutors John Edward Moll beat his 55-year-old mother-in-law Lillian DeVilla. to death on the night of Jan. 29, 1998. Investigators say he lived with DeVilla and his wife in a Laguna Beach condo when he got into a fight with his mother-in-law, killing her and then tying plastic around her head and dumping in her in a field on Laguna Canyon Road for city workers to find.
