Cops Search For Panga Boat Operators

Laguna Beach Police & fire are searching for those who were on board a mysterious boat that arrived on the OC Coastline and "ran off."

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Border Patrol agents, the Laguna Beach Police Department and Newport Beach Police searched for operators of a "panga boat" who ran after arriving on the shoreline, officials said. It was believed by officials to be a "human smuggling event," Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Jim Cota said.

The panga boat is currently being processed for evidence, according to Cota, and was slated to be removed from the beach, as of 8 a.m.

The subjects remain outstanding and are believed to have left the area, Cota said.
