Fatal DUI Collision Kills Murrieta Man In Laguna Beach

A man who took an illegal left turn was killed and several were injured on Saturday night in Laguna Beach, police said. DUI suspected.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — A Murrieta man driving a Nissan Altima with three passengers was killed in Laguna Beach over the weekend, Laguna Beach Police said.

Laguna Beach Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene of Coast Highway and Country Club Drive at just before 9 p.m. to the entrance to The Ranch at Laguna Beach.

The 27-year-old Altima driver, identified by the Orange County Coroner as Francisco Rojas of Murietta, was transported to Mission Hospital, Laguna Beach, where he was pronounced dead. The three passengers were also transported to the hospital with injuries.

According to reports, Rojas made an illegal turn and was broadsided by a Chevy Avalanche on Country Club Drive.

The driver of the Avalanche displayed "symptoms of alcohol intoxication," Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Jim Cota told Patch. "The 57-year-old Laguna Beach Man, identified as Marshall Eichenauer, was arrested at the scene," Cota said.

The traffic investigation is still underway, according to LBPD, on the possible filing of charges.
