These large scale installations explore light, shadow and your perception of reality. Perfect, when you consider the artists behind them.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — On Monday, April 29, 2019, artist team Hybycozo will be installing three sculptures outside City Hall. The geometric sculptures, each created from steel, will be on exhibit for three months.
To look at them, they are breathtaking, intricate and filled with light. What you may not notice, however, is the whimsy that initially inspired the name of this artistic duo.
The artists Yelena Filipchuk and Serge Beaulieu are based in Oakland and have been featured artists at the Burning Man Festival. Their company, shorthand Hybycozo actually stands for Hyperspace Bypass Construction Zone. If you've ever read Douglas Adams "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" series, you may recognize that reference.

What may have begun in irreverent humor has transformed into a well-respected large-scale sculpture team of artists, fabricators, handlers, installers and the community that appreciates them. In 2019, Hybycozo will create a 3D geometric sculpture for the base of this year's Burning Man. Basically, a structure that will be at the center of the festival, casting light and geometric patterns across the pop-up city.
"Each installation, and artwork created by Hybycozo, investigates geometry through light, shadow and yes, perception," they said on their Facebook page, and their installation is a welcome sight in Laguna Beach. And not a Vogon to be seen.
