Gym Employee Arrested...But Only After He Covered His Shift
An employee of a local Laguna Beach gym was arrested over the weekend, but not before he made arrangements to cover his shift.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — A local gym employee with an outstanding warrant asked Laguna Beach Police Officers to let him cover his shift before being taken in, according to reports.
On Saturday at approximately 2 p.m. Laguna Beach Police Department officers arrived a local gym on the 800 block of Glenneyre Street with an active warrant for one of the fitness center's employees, according to LBPD Sgt. Jim Cota.
"Officers were told that the employee they were serving the arrest warrant was the only employee at the gym," Cota said. "He asked to make arrangements for someone to come in and take his spot."

The officer then allowed the employee to make a few calls for his replacement. Leaving the gym unmanned wasn't in the cards, though, and a Laguna Beach Police Officer volunteered to man the front desk until the replacement employee arrived.
The suspect was cited and released according to Laguna Beach Police Department's weekend reports.

"When I got to work this morning and heard the story, it just embodies what community oriented policing is all about," Cota said. He then joked, "As a result that unnamed officer may pursue a side gig as a Zumba or Jazzercise instructor on the weekends."
