LAGUNA BEACH, CA — The one worry while you're away for the holiday season is your home. What if someone breaks in? or worse, what if a neighbor calls 9-1-1 on your house sitter? Consider contacting the Laguna Beach Police Department before you go and alerting them of your travel plans.

"The Laguna Beach Police Department will keep an eye on your home while you are on vacation,' the city's police department website stated.

A basic house check service can save residents much unwanted heartache while you're enjoying time away from home this holiday.

How to apply?

Visit your local Laguna Beach Police Station, located at 505 Forest Avenue, during regular business hours.

"You don't need to make an appointment," they said. "Do bring the name and contact information for people permitted on your property during the house check period and an emergency contact number for yourself while you are away."

While at the police station, complete a Vacation House Check Request Form.

"Keep in mind that the owner or tenant must legitimately be on vacation or a business trip, and that trip must be longer than four days but shorter than three weeks," the Laguna Beach Police Department advised. "Also, make your home as secure as possible before you leave. All doors and windows should be closed and locked."
