High Risk Of Flooding: How To Prepare For Sunday Storm In Laguna Beach
Days after rain drenched the region, an even more powerful storm is predicted to slam into SoCal starting Sunday.
LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Weather experts and local authorities are sounding the alarm ahead of the most powerful atmospheric river to hit the Southland. The impending storm comes just days after another storm doused the region, increasing the odds of mudslides and flooding across the state.
In Laguna Beach, residents — especially those in low-lying areas already impacted by flooding — were urged to prepare by protecting their homes and businesses with sandbags and avoiding travel unless necessary.
The winter storm will start Sunday, weather officials said. According to the National Weather Service, Sunday will bring a high chance of heavy rains and strong winds lasting through the day, with a chance of thunderstorms overnight.

On Monday, residents will experience a slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning and night, as well as moderate rain throughout the day.
The rain will continue on through Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the National Weather Service predicted.

As a reminder, the Laguna Beach Police Department has several do-it-yourself and filled sandbag stations for residents to use. Residents can pick up already filled property-protecting sand bags at any of the following locations (limit ten per property):
- ACT V Parking Lot (Lot 16) — 1900 Laguna Canyon Road.
- Aliso Beach Inland Parking Lot — 31118 Coast Highway.
Empty sandbags are also available at Laguna Beach's four fire stations. The sandbags are free, however, you must provide your own sand.
Remember, it is forbidden to fill sandbags with sand from Laguna's beaches or playgrounds.
Residents can pick up empty sandbags here:
- Station 1 — 501 Forest Ave.
- Station 2 — 285 Agate St.
- Station 3 — 2900 Alta Laguna Blvd.
- Station 4 — 31646 2nd Ave.
Laguna Beach residents were urged to stay in-the-know about emergency flooding and other weather events by signing up for Nixle.
Residents can sign up for Nixle by sending a text message to the number "888777" with your zip code in the body of the message.
Laguna Beach residents can also stay vigilant by monitoring the city's social media on Facebook and X, formerly known as Twitter.
