Homicide Investigation Underway At Laguna Lido Condominiums

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — A part-time Laguna Beach resident was shot multiple times inside a Laguna Lido condominium early Tuesday morning, police reported.

Barrett Slome, 46, died of gunshot wounds as emergency officials arrived at the scene, according to police. The break-in and fatal shooting is the first homicide in Laguna Beach in just under one year.

Tuesday morning, just after 5:15 a.m., Laguna Beach Public Safety Dispatchers received a 911 call from a concerned resident of the Laguna Lido Condominiums located at 31755 Coast Highway.

"The caller described hearing glass breaking, which was immediately followed by the sound of gunshots," Sgt. James Cota of the Laguna Beach Police Department says. Officers responded to the multi-story building and started searching for the source of the noise: a unit on the second floor with a shattered window.

"Upon entering the residence, officers located a man suffering from gunshot wounds," Cota says. Paramedics responded to the scene for medical aid, but the victim died before they arrived.

Detectives are actively working the investigation, and the Orange County Crime Lab will be assisting with processing the scene and evidence collection, Cota says.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time, pending next of kin notification.

When the detectives will provide appropriate, additional information. As of this report, there are no suspect descriptions.
