Laguna Beach City Mulls Climate Change Resolution: City Council

If approved, the resolution would call for citywide efforts to address climate change in Laguna Beach.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — The Laguna Beach City Council will discuss approving a new resolution to help the city combat climate change at its Tuesday meeting.

The proposed resolution, if approved, would call for the adoption of citywide efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build Laguna Beach toward climate resiliency.

To fight climate change in Laguna Beach, the resolution would encourage the city to do the following:

  • Introduce local initiatives and support regional efforts that help Laguna Beach achieve net zero emissions by 2045 or sooner.
  • Engage with Laguna Beach's appointed committees, residents, diverse community groups, businesses and other stakeholders to promote a climate resilient community.
  • Provide the Laguna Beach City Council and residents with an annual update on the city's progress with addressing climate change.

"Laguna Beach is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, including extreme weather, heat, drought, wildfire and rising sea levels that could significantly impact the health, safety and well-being of the city's environment, its residents, businesses and visitors." A city staff report said.

The Laguna Beach City Council meets at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 505 Forest Ave.
