Laguna Beach Council May Update City Code To Add Wireless Tech
The council will consider whether to move forward with 5G wireless technology in the city.
LAGUNA BEACH, CA — The Laguna Beach City Council will consider amending the municipal code on Tuesday to ensure that the city complies with federal mandates on several fronts, including the introduction of 5G wireless technology, the Los Angeles Times reported.
In May, the council began the process for introducing the technology, whose rollout was helped along nationwide by Federal Communications Commission regulations in September 2018.
This week, the council may specify where the technology will be installed in order to minimize view obstruction and make use of existing structures, according to the Times. If the council approves the updates, the Planning Commission will process the changes and report back to the council in the next six months.
