Laguna Beach: Fête de la Musique Returns This June

Music will be everywhere in Laguna Beach, organizers say. This, on World Music Day and Summer Solstice.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — What is the Fête de la Musique ? Event organizers say it is a free event that will happen all over the streets of Laguna Beach in various locations. Music will be everywhere, on June 17, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This year, the 10th annual event of Joel Cohen's Fête de la Musique will be bigger than ever.

"(Cohen) proposed an all-night music celebration during the summer solstice, which was recognized by the French Minister of Culture, and subsequently held in France in 1982," the city of Laguna Beach stated in a recent release.

Still on Solstice, the Fête de la Musique in Laguna Beach, takes place in the afternoon rather than all night long. It also celebrates the Beach Sister Cities Association, with cities of Laguna Beach, USA; Menton, France; San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico; and St. Ives, England.

"The sister city program is where we seek out other cities throughout the world, and as we move forward we find that we have a lot more in common than we don't have in common," Laguna Beach's Steve Dicterow said in 2016.

The festival was awarded Laguna Beach Arts Alliance's "2010 Best New Arts Program," is held in conjunction with "World Music Day" to celebrate the coming of summer each June.

In 2016, hundreds gathered to share in all sorts of music and dancing activities around the city (Watch video below). Venues included the Rock Etiquette; Forest Ocean Gallery; Main Beach; Zinc Cafe Courtyard; Rasta Taco; South Coast Theatre; Whole Foods; Laguna Beach Historical Society and many others.

Music styles cover about every type of music. If you come, expect to hear singers and artists perform everything from from big band to acoustic guitar, from jazz to rhythm and blues, and from soul to good old fashioned rock and roll.

Dress in costume, stroll in your favorite summer hat, listen to all types of music or even register to perform yourself.

The festival is celebrated worldwide on, or near, the beginning of summer. LBSCA has crafted its Fête de la Musique to promote Laguna Beach performing arts through live music by singers and musicians.
