LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Do you have questions about the new recycling program that rolled out on New Year's Day? On Wednesday, the City of Laguna Beach and Waste Management, the city's waste hauler, will host a virtual town hall regarding the new Residential Food Scrap Recycling Program, the city announced Wednesday.

The new recycling program stems from California's recently-added Senate Bill 1383, which requires residents statewide to participate in organics recycling in order to reduce climate pollutions coming from local landfills.

Starting Jan. 1, residents should begin placing food scraps like fruit and vegetable trimmings, eggshells, pasta, grains, coffee grounds and expired food (among other things) into the green-lidded container provided by Waste Management of Orange County, the city said. The materials will be collected on garbage day and transported to a facility for composting.
