Laguna Beach Old Growth Trees Vandalized

Several old growth eucalyptus trees were vandalized in last November, according to Laguna Beach Police.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Tree vandalism has been reported in Laguna Beach. Several mature eucalyptus trees have been vandalized.

The Laguna Beach Police Department is investigating a series of tree vandalism cases made into the trees located nearby a Laguna shopping center, on the Montage Resort property and on Skyline Drive as it was reported on Monday.

A neighbor is possibly suspected in the Skyline Drive incident, which could have occurred sometime between Nov. 22 and Nov. 27. Damage done to five trees on the Montage resort property was found early Monday, Nov. 21. On Nov. 26 additional vandalism was reported at a nearby shopping center, police said.

Laguna Beach Police Department information officer Sgt. Tim Kleiser told the Laguna Beach Indy that the two incidents might be related. Also, it could take up to six weeks for arborists to determine if the 40- to 45- year old trees will recover from the two-inch deep cuts in the tree trunks, Kleiser said.
