LAGUNA BEACH, CA — The Laguna Beach Police Department does more than just surf and protect. They also know how to give back to people in need.

On Feb. 13, the best and bravest from the LBPD joined with brothers and sisters from the Irvine Police Department and Orange Police Department to share the love with a two-year-old Garden Grove girl who is battling leukemia.

"Eva Marie Strong is our hero," LBPD said. Her story is compelling, and the men and women who gathered on Monday shared gifts and smiles for the young girl.

"The vibrant, happy little Eva we had on Friday afternoon transformed overnight," her parents said. "Saturday morning she woke up in pain, lethargic and crying with a loss of appetite. We took her to the ER and received a diagnosis of Leukemia that same night."

After she went into remission, her family was excited about the next phase of life after cancer, but Eva suffered a relapse in September of 2016.

"Eva is currently in her last phase of chemo before her upcoming bone marrow transplant," her family said. "Prior to the transplant, she must also receive radiation therapy."
