Laguna Beach Unified School District Offering ESL Classes

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — The Laguna Beach Unified School District will offer free English as a Second Language (ESL) classes starting September 26. Classes are offered Monday through Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., and will utilize a blend of in class and online instruction. Classes will be taught in room 91 located above the high school tennis courts and swimming pool.

Funding provided through the state’s Adult Education Block Grant enables the district to offer this personal growth opportunity to community members.

“Adult ESL is a great and free opportunity for our local community members to get involved and practice their English skills,” said Jeff Dippel, ESL teacher for the adult education program. “The class is a mix between traditional learning in a classroom, and online learning from home."

The online portion of the class is designed to help our students learn English while keeping up with their busy lives outside of school, Dippel said.

Last year, at the end of the ESL program, students were asked to complete a survey regarding their experience.

Overall, students shared that their favorite part of program was the ability to learn how to use a computer to maximize their learning of the language and the convenience of studying from home. Students also mentioned that they formed new friendships.

Individuals at all levels of English language proficiency are welcome to attend.
