Laguna Beach's Skyloft Gets Ohio Buckeye's Fever

Laguna Beach's popular hangout, Skyloft, offers these fun college football specials this fall in honor of Ohio State Buckeyes Expansion.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — It's fun, family and football at Skyloft restaurant in Laguna Beach. After the restaurant's out-of-the-gate success in Laguna, restaurateur Ivan Spiers recently announced that a second Skyloft Restaurant will begin construction in Columbus, Ohio, in the popular Brewery District.

“For months we were looking all over the country for the best location for our next Skyloft,” says Spiers. “As soon as we began exploring in Columbus, we knew we’d found Skyloft’s second home. It’s a fantastic city, and the people are really warm and wonderful, very welcoming.

“So, now we’re absolute Buckeyes fans,” Spiers said. “First here in Laguna Beach and, by next season, with our sister Skyloft in Columbus.”

The expansion into Columbus will not be complete until at least fall of 2018 according to Spiers.

In honor of the coming alliance with Columbus residents and the 66,000 students at neighboring Ohio State, Skyloft Laguna Beach has already gone to the Buckeye side.

Skyloft Laguna Beach Initiates Ohio State Wave on August 31st.

From Ohio’s first game on Thursday, Aug. 31st, through the Big Ten championship on Dec. 2nd, Laguna Beach-based Skyloft is offering to be “the home away from home” for Ohio State alumni and Buckeyes fans everywhere.

With the most TVs in the city of Laguna Beach (25), Skyloft’s Director of Operations Jonathan Moore says that Buckeye fans are invited to take over the main level bar completely (12 TVs) and, as their numbers increase, they’ll “roll down the field” (into the music lounge area with another 10 TVs), and then into the main dining room (2 giant TVs).

Skyloft Touchdown: Buckeyes Specials

TVs and flying flags on Skyloft’s exteriors are only the beginning.

Chef Arthur Ortiz has introduced at least two Buckeye specials – the Buckeye Burger (smoked brisket piled on his famous burger) and the “TBDBITL” … if you’re true to your Ohio school, you know exactly what that acronym means … but Chef Arthur has replaced just one word (Band) with … Bacon in a pile-on Bacon Nachos dish.

Beverage Director and Resident Beer Guy Louie Palmerin has created a “Brutus” drink (in honor of the mascot with the big nut for a head), the “Scarlet Sky” cocktail (in honor of the 65-year stadium fan corner, Block “O”), and the “Urban Legend” cocktail (for nationally esteemed Head Coach Urban Meyer).

Palmerin also promises a different craft or draft beer each week. The beer will be priced at just $5 an hour preceding game time (for tailgaters) and throughout every Ohio State game.

Skyloft is the first South Orange County restaurant to fly Ohio State colors. Director of Operations Jonathan Moore also notes that his restaurant will only fly those colors.

“We love all our college and NFL fans and we have plenty of TVs to show plenty of games. We welcome all makes and models,” says Moore. “But we have a little sister coming along in a really great town now, and we’re awfully proud to call ourselves Buckeyes.”
