Tree Felled At Laguna Beach Park Due To Rot, City Says
The sprawling coral tree situated behind the Lang Park sign was removed Wednesday morning under the direction of an arborist, the city said.
LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Another tree was removed in a Laguna Beach park Wednesday morning due to structural issues, the city said.
According to city officials, maintenance crews and staff responded to a canopy failure involving the coral tree located just behind the wooden sign in the Lang Park parking lot.
An initial assessment of the tree revealed that it had possibly been hit by a car, city officials said in a statement.

While the city began removing damaged limbs while under the direction of a licensed arborist, significant rot and decay was found at the base of the sprawling tree.
"Unfortunately, because of the tree's condition and the risk of further limb failure, full removal is necessary to protect public safety," the city said. "Crews will clean up the area, and the city will prepare the site for a replacement tree."
