Mission Hospital Golf Classic Raises More Than $366,000
Since the tournament began 23 years ago, more than $4 million has been raised to support new technology and patient care enhancements
The Mission Hospital Golf Classic continued its rich philanthropic tradition by netting more than $366,000. This successful event, held at Pelican Hill Club in Newport Beach, would not have been possible without the leadership of Golf Chair Jim Bastian and the generosity of Tournament Sponsor Audi Mission Viejo and Infiniti of Mission Viejo and Presenting Sponsor Jessup Management Services.
The golf tournament proceeds will enable Mission Hospital to remain at the forefront of advanced health care technology, facilities, cutting-edge services, and community benefit programs that nurture and support the underserved.
One of the annual highlights of the event is the raffle drawing of a new Audi or Infiniti vehicle, complements of Tournament Sponsor Audi Mission Viejo and Infiniti of Mission Viejo. This year’s lucky winner is Andrew Saad of Trabuco Canyon.

“Every year we try to enhance the tournament by adding new offerings to amp up the fun,” shared Jim Bastian. This year golfers were offered the opportunity to play a scramble or shamble format.
First place on the men’s scramble course was claimed by the McDermott & Bull Executive Search Firm foursome, including Laguna Niguel resident Rod McDermott, Garrett Lipus, Steve Montgomery and Taylor Wood.

Robert Summer’s group secured first place on the shamble course; a resident of Dove Canyon, Robert’s team included Greg Lopez, Jeff Payne and Dennis Reiland.
The Coto de Caza team of Dana Bredenkamp, Gale Dunlop, Debbie Long and Donna Sabatasso landed the women’s first place victory.
Several new tournament contests were added including a Yellow Ball Challenge and Closest to the Keg. Bill Leonard of Coto de Caza and his foursome from Prestige Office Coffee Service were successful in playing their yellow ball throughout the tournament without losing it. Mission Hospital’s Thad Herman won the honor of Closest to the Keg.
Throughout the course golfers enjoyed incredible food provided by Hanna’s Restaurant & Bar, Canyon Fireside Grille, Chick-fil-A and Board & Brew. Cool refreshments included NOLET’S Silver Dutch Mules, Ketel One Citroen Lemonade, Fix Auto Beer Margaritas and Nekter Juice, as well as beer from Ballast Point Brewing Company, Lagunitas Brewing Co., Hangar 24 Craft Brewery and Beach City Brewery.
Forecaddies were once again provided for each foursome – graciously donated by Ira Hermann of Capstone Partners Financial and Sunwest Bank.”
In addition to an incredible day of golf, many tournament attendees took home raffle, golf bingo and tournament prizes, as well as live auction items. Among the most popular items: a two-night stay in the Presidential Suite at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort with an Audi for the weekend, Boston Red Sox Experience including field and dugout visits, airfare and hotel, and KLOS/KABC suite tickets to a Taylor Swift concert.
