New Parking Spots In South Laguna OK'd By City Council

The Laguna Beach City Council voted to lease a property for additional public parking in South Laguna.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — In an effort to alleviate the city's parking problems, the Laguna Beach City Council voted to lease out a property that will add 52 public parking spaces in South Laguna.

Council members unanimously approved the$45,000 five-year annual lease for the parking lot located on 30802 Coast Hwy. at Tuesday's meeting. The parking lot is adjacent to Ruby's and near the Montage Laguna, and is currently owned by Hometown America Communities, according to the staff report.

“This is one of the examples of things we’re looking for to make our parking situation better throughout the town,” Laguna Beach Mayor Sue Kempf said during Tuesday's meeting.

Once open, the new parking lot will be enforced from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week, and overnight parking will not be permitted. Laguna Beach residents with a valid "Shopper Permit" would park for free, according to a city staff report.

According to the city, a coastal development permit is being processed for the use of the parking lot.
