Police: Man Used Instagram to Locate Women and Steal Their Undies

A 44-year-old Menifee man is facing burglary and other charges for allegedly using Instagram to locate the addresses of about 30 female Orange County college students and stealing personal effects such as underwear from their residences.

Arturo Galvan, who’s being held without bail, was charged last week in Orange County with 33 counts of first-degree burglary and one count of attempted burglary, all felonies, and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and vandalism.

Many of the victims lived in sorority-owned housing at Chapman University and Cal State Fullerton, according to Roxi Fyad of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Galvan allegedly used the locating information on Instagram posts to track down where the women lived and break in when they weren’t home to steal underwear, other types of clothes, personal photos, planners, jewelry, laptops and tablet devices, according to Fyad.

The burglaries began May 22 and continued through Dec. 3, when a Fullerton police officer interrupted the suspect as he was peeping into a window, Fyad said.

Galvan was arrested later that day while allegedly attempting to break into a car, Fyad said, and could face up to 50 years in prison if convicted.

He’s due back in a Santa Ana courtroom on Feb. 23 for a pretrial hearing.
