Search Called Off After Boys Recant Kidnapping Tale
Deputies call off search for alleged Dana Point kidnapper after kids recant.

Orange County sheriff’s investigators called off a search today for a child annoyance suspect in Dana Point when two brothers -- 12 and 9 years old -- admitted to investigators they made the story up.
Investigators released a sketch of a suspect earlier today. But by this afternoon, after more questioning from investigators, the boys recanted their story, according to Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock.
The boys said they were riding their scooters to the Aloha Swim School about 2:50 p.m. Tuesday when a man in a pickup truck approached them on Camino Capistrano near Via Cannon, Hallock said.

The boys said the man asked them if they needed a ride, and when one of the brothers said, “No man, thanks,” the driver responded, “But I have candy,” according to Hallock.
