LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Two new cultural experiences are coming to The Ranch at Laguna Beach, after the resort announced its collaboration with local creatives Gary Larson and John Cosby.

According to the resort, "The Shaper" and "The Painter" aim to immerse guests in two of Laguna Beach's most well-known cultural elements: surfing and plein air painting.

Guests who participate in the experience will gain insight into the crafts and connect to the cultural pillars that are a cornerstone of the Laguna Beach community, program organizers said.

“These are two completely unique, authentically Californian experiences that you can’t find anywhere else,” Chief Operating Officer Kurt Bjorkman said in a statement. “We carefully curated each experience with Gary and John to create highly personalized, once-in a-lifetime activities that our guests will cherish.”

The program "The Shaper" will be led by surfboard shaper Gary Larson, who has created custom boards from the shaping bay at the Hobie Surf Shop for over two decades.

The experience will allow guests the chance to create their very own custom surfboard alongside Larson, who will guide them every step of the way.

The program "The Painter" will be led by world-renowned plein air painter John Cosby, whose signature use of color and energetic brush strokes capture the imagination.

As a part of the experience, Cosby will first join the guest for coffee at his studio to discuss his artistic process before continuing the conversation over lunch. From there, Cosby will take the guest to the sandy shores of Laguna Beach to create their own plein air masterpiece under his watch.

"The Painter" and "The Shaper" cultural experiences are available to The Ranch at Laguna Beach resort guests. To learn more about the programs, visit the resort's website.
