And whether you plan to get festive in your back yard, the park, on the beach or where ever you feel fit to honor the Red, White and Blue, take a few moments to make safety part of your plans. The San Bernardino personal injury attorneys have put together a few tips in helping to keep your holiday safe and your memories good ones.

Use Alcohol Responsibly

· To boost the festive feeling many of us inclined to have a couple of booze filled beverages over the fourth. Tragically the number of traffic accidents, firework injuries and drowning’s spikes dramatically on Independence Day. If you decide to drink, make sure you stay away from such hazardous and dangerous combinations.

Practice Safe Swimming

· Never swim alone, and make sure the kids’ water play is adequately supervised at all times. Being in a lifeguarded zone saves lives each summer.

Cover Food & Beverages

· Allowing food to sit in outdoor temperatures can invite food-borne illness. The U.S. FDA suggests never leaving food out for more than one hour when the temperature is above 90 F.

· Adequate hand washing and food preparation can also help prevent food poisoning.

Firework Safety

· The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public fireworks show put on by professionals. Stay at least 500 feet away from the show.

Grill Safety

· Every year people in this country are injured while using backyard charcoal or gas grills. Keep children away from campfires and grills. Gas leaks, blocked tubes, overfilled propane tanks and grilling in closed quarters or amongst shrub can be a cause of grill fires and explosions.

Sun Protection

· Limit exposure to direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a protection factor of at least 15. Reapply sunscreen often. Remember to drink plenty of water regularly.

· Protect the eyes by wearing sunglasses that will absorb 100 percent of UV sunlight.

Insect Repellent

· If you’ll be hiking or camping in an area where ticks are abundant, wear long-sleeved, light-colored shirts and long pants tucked into socks or boots to protect yourself from tick-borne diseases. Check yourself (and your pets) for ticks at the end of the day.

Boating Safety

· For many, the Fourth of July means going out for the day on a nearby body of water to experience a fun time with friends and family. But each year, serious boating accidents occur – many resulting in drowning victims – which are often caused by a combination of drinking alcohol while boating. Please be sure that you review Boating Safety Guidelines before embarking and have a designated driver for your boat.

Pedestrian Safety

· Pedestrian accidents occur also as many families are out and about on the Fourth of July, whether vacationing, walking to view fireworks, or simply getting out in the sun. Be Careful, Be Aware and BE SAFE this upcoming Independence Day!
